5 Vector Programs You Can Use to Design a Logo

If you’re learning logo design, one of the most important things to understand is that your final logo should be created as a vector. Unlike raster images, vectors can scale from a tiny business card to a huge sign without losing quality.

Here are five programs you can use to create vector-based logos:

1. Adobe Illustrator

Best for: Professional logo and brand identity design
Cost: Paid — check whether your school provides Adobe Creative Cloud access.

Illustrator is the industry-standard program I personally recommend learning if you want to work professionally in graphic design.

2. Affinity

Best for: A professional alternative to Illustrator
Cost: Free

Affinity gives you professional vector design tools without requiring Adobe.

3. Inkscape

Best for: Students who need a completely free option
Cost: Free + open source

Inkscape is a dedicated vector graphics program and a great option if you’re learning logo design without access to paid software.

4. CorelDRAW

Best for: Vector design, print and production work
Cost: Paid — education options may be available.

CorelDRAW is another professional vector-design program, particularly useful in print and production environments.

5. Figma

Best for: Digital design + simpler vector work
Cost: Free plan available

Figma has vector editing capabilities and can absolutely be used to create vector graphics, although I personally prefer dedicated vector software like Illustrator, Affinity or Inkscape when designing logos.

The biggest takeaway: you don't necessarily need expensive software to start learning logo design. Focus on learning how to build your logo as vectors so it can scale properly and be used across different applications.
